Abstract

Modern communication technologies, social networks in particular, across the globe have brought about a quality transformation in humans’ ties with each other. The present study seeks to examine factors influencing individuals’ tendency and attraction towards such social networks as Facebook and Tweeter. A survey was carried on 360 members of these two websites, using purposeful non-probability sampling. The findings indicate that such factors as sharing information, freedom in communications, and free flow of information in Facebook and Tweeter have effects on individuals’ predisposition towards these social networks. The results also show that in the media competitive environment, lack of indigenous social networks might lead individuals into foreign-sourced virtual social networks. Need not to say that social networks, due to their unique capacities, could have impacts on the type and content of communication as well as the users’ lifestyle and personal experiences.
