Abstract
National media, as the main source of information in the Islamic Republic of Iran, plays a key role in shaping public opinion in crisis situations. the performance of this media in covering crises has always faced a lot of criticism, especially in the field of news conflicts, information bias, and reduced public trust. The present study aimed to qualitatively analyze national media news conflicts in crises and lay the groundwork for redesigning a public trust model. This applied research was conducted using a qualitative content analysis method. Data were collected through 10 semi-structured interviews with communication experts, media managers, crisis managers, and informed audiences and analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding. In the open coding stage, 150 initial concepts were extracted, which were categorized into 40 intermediate categories in axial coding and finally into 6 macro-indicators in selective coding (including: transparency and accuracy in news, trust-building and media legitimacy, professional structure of the media in crisis management, information justice and comprehensive coverage, interactive communication with the community, and critical and forward-looking analysis). The findings show that the most important factors affecting news conflict and the decline in public trust are: weakness in information transparency, elimination of independent voices, political bias, lack of multi-voice narrative, lack of empathy in representing human suffering, not matching reality with media narrative. By presenting a new conceptual model for redesigning trust-building mechanisms, this article is considered a step towards rebuilding public trust in the national media in crisis situations.
