Abstract
Social networks have become the most common activity of Iranian families today. Most daily actions depend on the use of these networks. With the penetration of social networks in life, the family institution has experienced certain changes in terms of values and norms. The aim of this research is to study the change in family values and norms through the use of virtual social networks. This research was conducted using a meta-composition qualitative method in the period from 2013 to 2014. The research samples were selected through non-probability sampling from 110 scientific documents (extracted from the scientific databases of Normags, Magiran and Irandoc), after screening, 53 documents were selected. Data analysis was performed with Excel and MAXQDA 2022 software. The findings showed that excessive use of social networks has psychological consequences (identity crisis, increased anxiety and depression, behavioral aggression, low self-esteem, and decreased mental and physical health), economic consequences (the prevalence of work laziness and consumerism), social consequences (the decline of family social capital, the decline of social satisfaction, the emergence of extramarital relationships, the decline of family control, the prevalence of social harms), and social consequences (the prevalence of immorality, abnormal lifestyle, generational gap and conflict, addictive media consumption, the decline of joyful entertainment, etc.) on the family institution. The results indicate that excessive use of social networks has fundamentally changed the norms and values of the Iranian family and has led to the formation of fluid, temporary, and abnormal patterns of family life.
