Using focus group method, the present research examines the way the soap opera “Pahlavi Hat” is interpreted and decoded by women . First, five groups of women were chosen purposively to conduct focus group discussion.Each group consisted of people with different cultural background. The findings indicate that there are differences in the audience’s reading of the soap opera, and they are not passive against series’ messages. Depending on their characteristics and lifestyle, women have access to various sources of information and discourses and hence, receive TV messages accordingly and differently. Some participants read the series according to traditional discourse while others, based on their own experiences, have received components messages related to both traditionalism and modernism .
