Background: Media, particularly news media, play a pivotal role in shaping audience perceptions and understanding of reality through narrative construction and imagery. This process can serve specific informational objectives and influence public opinion. Narrative journalism, as an effective tool, impacts political, social, and cultural spheres.

Objective: This study aims to identify the components of narrative journalism applicable to television news reporting.

Method: Employing a qualitative approach, this research utilized the Grounded Theory method based on Strauss and Corbin’s systematic approach (1998). Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews with 10 media experts, including documentary filmmakers, television journalists, novelists, and screenwriters. Data analysis involved three stages: open coding, axial coding, and selective coding.

Findings: The analysis revealed key components of narrative journalism: narrative news crises (challenges in constructing and representing reality), form and content of television news narratives (structuring and presenting messages), narrative news field (social and cultural contexts), situational awareness (understanding social and temporal conditions), audience analysis (addressing audience needs and expectations), psychological operations (employing psychological tools in storytelling), image-based subject selection (choosing compelling and impactful topics), and source credibility (enhancing audience trust in media).

Conclusion: Television news media can enhance the effectiveness of information dissemination by leveraging narrative journalism components, overcoming existing challenges, and strategically selecting subjects and content compared to conventional reporting methods.
